The problem
Predictable filenames let you narrow candidates directly while browsing. You do not always need to move focus into a search box.
A practical answer
With file browsing focused, GJ File Manager accepts ASCII letters and digits as a letter query. Escape clears it and Backspace removes one character.
Step by step
- Click the file area with no rename or text field active.
- Type letters such as pro and inspect matching items.
- Use Backspace to correct the query.
- Press Escape to clear it and resume browsing.
Know the limits
This is not cross-disk full-text search. When a text field has focus, typing belongs to that field. Matching items are grouped before other items; nonmatches are not deleted. Chinese names can also match their pinyin initials.
