The problem
Changing report.txt to report.pdf can change its appearance without changing what is inside. A recipient may blame the reader or transfer when the file was never actually converted.
A practical answer
An extension helps identify a format. Use ordinary renaming in GJ File Manager for names, and a compatible conversion task when you need different file contents.
Step by step
- Inspect the full filename and determine whether its name or extension changed.
- If you know the original extension and changed it accidentally, restore it and check in the original application.
- For a genuinely different format, preserve the source and choose compatible input and output in the conversion center.
- Open the generated result before sending it; do not disguise a conversion failure by changing another extension.

Know the limits
Do not guess an unknown original format. Renaming does not remove encryption, repair damaged content or add a decoder.
Common question
Does showing hidden files show extensions?
These are separate concepts. The hidden-file switch does not establish that a file has been converted.
