Compare files and folders before synchronizing

GJ soft editorial · Updated

Mac guide · GJ File Manager 2.98 · macOS 14+

The problem

Names such as final and final-revised do not explain what changed. Overwriting first can lose newer work on the other side.

A practical answer

GJ File Manager compares files or folders so you can inspect missing and changed items before deciding whether to synchronize.

Step by step

  1. Select the two sample text files, then use the configured Compare shortcut (default ⌥⌘D).
  2. Inspect missing, different and matching items, checking both paths.
  3. For supported text files, inspect the text differences.
  4. If synchronization is needed, back up first and confirm its direction and mode.

Know the limits

Mirroring can remove destination-only content. Not every sync mode simply adds missing files.

Common question

Does comparison automatically overwrite files?

Viewing differences and executing synchronization are separate steps. Review the result before choosing an operation.
