Your First Week with Mac Project Folders: A Windows User's Routine
A practical first-week routine for Windows users managing a Mac project. Learn to authorize a project folder in GJ File Manager, keep source and delivery locations in tabs, and check permissions without touching Finder or risking your originals.
Start with a stable workspace, not shortcuts
Your projects have not changed, but on Mac their files may feel unfamiliar. Instead of learning every shortcut, begin with stable places. Authorize one specific project folder in GJ File Manager: choose Add in Workspaces, then select the actual project folder, such as ClientSite-Q3. Confirm authorization in the system picker and open the directory. This workspace accesses the authorized folder; it does not upload your project to a new cloud service. Finder remains available alongside GJ, so you can keep using it for other tasks. Check the displayed path before moving anything, for example Projects/ClientSite-Q3 (an example folder).
Keep source and delivery side by side in tabs
Repeated navigation in a single view makes it easy to forget the source. Use tabs to preserve the locations you need. In GJ File Manager, open ClientSite-Q3/source, create a new tab, and enter ClientSite-Q3/delivery. These tabs represent browsing locations, not Finder's color tags. Switch between them and verify each path. Copy a sample file from source, like homepage-v2.psd, and paste it in the delivery tab. Wait for completion, then close tabs you no longer need. Tabs do not automatically synchronize folders; copying, moving, and synchronization remain explicit actions. Closing a tab closes a browsing entry, not the directory on disk.
Diagnose access problems without assuming a missing file
A file can exist while an app is not allowed to access it. If a folder will not open, missing authorization and a missing path are different problems. Authorize the needed directory through GJ File Manager's folder picker: choose Add in Workspaces, select the actual project folder, and confirm authorization in the system picker. Then open the directory. If an old path no longer works, review authorization settings and select the folder again. Retry and distinguish access denial from an offline disk or nonexistent path. Keep access specific: solving one project problem does not require opening your whole home directory. Removing an authorization does not delete files on disk; access may simply need to be granted again.
A first-week routine that keeps originals safe
For the first week, work only inside your authorized project folder. Move or copy sample files such as logo-final.svg or budget-q3.xlsx between the source and delivery tabs, verifying the displayed path each time. Before any move, confirm that the destination tab shows the correct folder. Finder remains available; check the location before reorganizing files in either application. If something looks wrong, check the path first, then check whether the folder is authorized. This routine builds familiarity using sample copies before working with important originals. The guides cover the Mac app; iPad controls and available features can differ.
